Day 1, Kashgar to Tashkorgan

We set out along the legendary Sino-Pakistan Karakoram Highway, with our first stop at Opal Village, a charming Silk Road settlement just outside Kashgar. Here, you can experience authentic rural life and watch local bakers prepare fresh nan bread straight from a tandoor oven.
Continuing onward, we make a brief stop at the striking Oytagh Colorful Mountains, where vibrant mineral-streaked hills offer a stunning preview of the dramatic landscapes ahead. As we ascend onto the Pamir Plateau—the “Roof of the World”—the scenery becomes increasingly breathtaking.
After a few hours, we arrive at Baisha Lake, a mesmerizing turquoise lake framed by vast white sand dunes. We explore the quieter northern shore before continuing to Karakul Lake (3,600m). Nestled at the foot of the iconic Muztagh Ata (7,546m) and Kongur (7,719m) mountains, this lake offers one of the most spectacular settings in the Pamirs. Muztagh Ata, meaning “Father of the Ice Mountain,” is renowned as one of the world’s most beautiful peaks.
The area provides excellent opportunities for hiking, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in this high-altitude wonderland. After exploring, we continue driving to Tashkorgan, the westernmost county of China, bordering Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Day 2, Tashkorgan to Kashgar

Activities:

Visit Stone Fort, Tajik village, Hike on the Grassland and drive back to Kashgar after lunch

Details:

Tashkurgan Tajik autonomous county was once an important hub on the old Silk Road. The area borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan  via the Kunjerab Pass and Wahan Corridor.
After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to explore the town’s ancient Stone Fort, which has stood for over 2,200 years. The name “Tashkurgan” actually means “Stone Fort” in the local language. You will also enjoy a peaceful hike on the grassland next to the Stone Fort, taking in the fresh mountain air and beautiful views of the surrounding Pamir landscape.
Later visit a Tajik village, where you can experience the warm hospitality and traditional lifestyle of the Tajik people, known for their unique culture and colorful clothing

After lunch, you will begin the scenic drive back to Kashgar. Along the way, you may make stops whenever you like to take photos or simply enjoy the stunning mountain scenery.

Optional Detour:If you wish, you can take a side trip to Muztagh Ata Glacier Park on the way back to Kashgar. This allows you to get closer to the majestic “Father of the Ice Mountain” and experience the incredible glacier landscape up close. Please note this will add extra time to your journey.

    How to Apply for the Permit

    • Standard Procedure: On the morning of your tour, your assigned driver will take you to the permit office to complete the application before the trip begins.
    • Recommended for Early Arrivals: If you arrive in Kashgar before your scheduled tour date, we suggest applying for the permit in advance. This allows for an earlier departure on the day of your tour.

    The office is approximately 15 kilometers from downtown Kashgar, near Kashgar Airport. If you are arriving by flight and have time before your tour, you may go directly to the permit office from the airport—it is only about a 10-minute drive away.

    The permit is available at the office near the Apak Hoja Tomb Mausoleum (the Fragrant Concubine’s tomb). You can apply for it while visiting the attraction—just do it by the way. If you can’t find the permit office, simply ask at the ticket office, and they’ll help you

    What to Bring

    • Passport: Required for permit issuance.
    • For Children Under 16: A birth certificate is required. A copy is acceptable. If you have a photo, you may print it on-site. Please note that the permit cannot be issued without the birth certificate.

    Health and Safety Information

    The tour area is at high altitude. This trip may not be suitable for individuals with heart conditions, high blood pressure, or other serious health concerns. Please ensure you are comfortable with high-altitude travel. For your safety, an oxygen tank will be available in the vehicle.

    Tour Start Time

    • If you have obtained the permit in advance: Your tour can begin directly between 8:00–9:00 AM (Beijing time).
    • If you need to apply for the permit on the day: Your driver will pick you up at 9:30 AM and take you to the permit office first. Afterward, your tour will proceed with plenty of time to enjoy the day.
