Though a number of larger travel agencies in Singapore have tours to Xinjiang, they cater to a predominantly Chinese crowd, and, as such, do not necessarily provide an in depth look at the lives and customs of the predominantly Uighur region ?C especially on the Southern Silk Road. First off, thank you Ali and Lily (Liwenyan) for your quick response to my emails despite the last minute nature of my enquiries. But full credit go to the guide (Alimjan) and driver (Abdul) whose knowledge and skill made traversing the 3000km from Kashgar to Urumqi ,Crcross the Talkamakan desert no less breeze. Hotels and food were no problem. So long as you state your preferences, the guides will assist wherever possible. (Bearing in mind that food options can be limited in smaller towns/villages).
